What goes into our timetable? Our Well-Rounded Curriculum at Canopy Student Care

Play? Or Learning?

"If we left kids to design the timetable, it would all be playtime; if we left parents to design the timetable, it would all be learning time."

This adage beautifully captures the age-old tension between play and academics, a balance that every educational institution strives to strike. But here at Canopy Student Care, we aim for something more profound: nurturing wholeness and purpose in every child.

A Day in the Life at Canopy Student Care: Our Timetable

While crafting a well-rounded timetable, we consider various aspects of the children's growth - intellectually, emotionally, and physically. So, what does a typical day at Canopy look like, based on our Term 4, 2023 timetable?

Two Vital Components

  1. Core Communal Time (1:45PM - 4:15PM)

    1. Arrival @ Canopy & Lunch & "Restore Time" (1:45 PM - 2:30 PM): The day starts with students arriving and having lunch, also referred to as "Restore Time." This initial period of relaxation and sustenance sets the stage for an enriching day ahead.

    2. Homework & Learning Support & "Silent Time" (2:30 PM - 3:30 PM): A dedicated time for students to focus on homework and other academic pursuits, with a half-hour of "silent time" to allow for deep concentration.

    3. Reflective Reading (from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM): Here, children engage in thought-provoking literature that enables them to connect emotionally and socially, feeding into our goal of nurturing wholeness.

    4. Tea Break (4:00 PM - 4:15 PM): A brief pause for refreshment and catching up with their peers.

  2. Canopy Programme Time (4:15 PM - 6:15 PM)

    1. Mondays & Fridays: Canopy Compass and Chinese Enrichment (Canopy Chinese+ in 2024) help students explore socio-emotional competencies and well-being; as well as brush up on their Chinese core skills.

    2. Tuesdays: Additional Academic Support and Learnseeker's AI-powered learning platform focus on enhancing the students' academic abilities.

    3. Wednesdays: Canopy Odyssey offers a real, tactile, and interactive environment for learning through board games.

    4. Thursdays: Outdoor Time is reserved for physical activities and exploratory learning. Whether it's our regular Tiong Bahru Park adventure, or the monthly 'A Park a Month' outing, this time allows students to engage with the world around them.

As the day winds down, we return to our communal space:

  • Home Sweet Home / Canopy Community Time (6:15 PM - 7:00 PM): Time to pack up, reflect on the day, and prepare to head home.

By embracing a diverse array of activities—from academic to recreational—we provide a holistic education that fosters both the mind and spirit. After all, we believe that the key to after-school care isn't just about balancing playtime and learning time; it's about guiding each child towards discovering their sense of wholeness and purpose in the world.

We invite you and your child(ren) to join us on this transformative journey towards nurturing wholeness and purpose. Reach out to us to find out how you can become part of our thriving community at Canopy Student Care!
